Frequently Asked Questions

Therapy can be a rewarding experience. It can help us learn more about ourselves, our relationships, and improve our quality of life.  Working with a therapist/counselor is different from sharing problems with friends and family.  Therapists are trained professionals who will assist you in developing your problem solving and communication techniques by utilizing a specific structure, theories, and strategies. Therapy is a journey and a process and it is different for everyone, as the journey is yours. Therapy can help us during difficult times, but it can also be helpful when things are going fine and we just need a little extra support and encouragement.

Making the first step to seek counseling can sometimes be frightening, as we do not know what to expect.  Therapy will be a collaborative process in which you and I will work together to determine what will be the best way to address any issues that are currently affecting your life. This is your journey and your path and I will use my training and experience, in order to support you in finding ways to feel better about yourself, your life, and your relationships.

Therapy will typically occur on a weekly basis.  Sessions are 50 minutes in length.  You and I will determine what length of time will ensure that your goals are met.  Every client is different and every situation is different, so the total duration of therapy will be individualized for each client and their own personal necessities.

In order to make the best use of Online Therapy, you will need a computer / laptop with a camera, a microphone and speakers (or headset), and a reliable internet connection.

Confidentiality is of the utmost importance to me and my practice, so all of our sessions are conducted in a private therapy room. I am the only person in the room at all times. Ensuring that our online communications are secure is also greatly important.  During the initial assessment we will discuss options for secure online communications.

Finding a “good” therapist follows the same guidelines as finding a “good” doctor or dentist. It is important that you feel connected to your therapist and are able to speak freely and honestly to him/her. Usually, it can take at least three (3) sessions to determine if your therapist is a “good” fit with your style. Every therapist is different and every therapist’s style and technique is different. The most important part is choosing one whom you feel comfortable with.
